Audiobooks We Produce, Master & Distribute
A curated look at the types of audiobook projects we take on — fiction, memoir, business, children's, health, and educational titles across solo narration, duet, and full-cast production. Each project below is a concept demonstration of our approach, unless explicitly marked as a client project with verified details.
Every audiobook on this page started as a manuscript that needed a voice.
Discuss Your AudiobookThe Full Journey
From Manuscript to Retail-Ready Audiobook on Every Major Platform
A finished audiobook is not just a voice reading a book. It is a pre-production plan, a narrated performance, edited audio without mouth noise or room tone issues, a master that meets retail loudness standards, correct chapter markers, retail metadata, and a distribution setup on the platforms your audience actually uses. Skipping any of those steps is how audiobooks end up sounding amateur — even when the writing is excellent.
Some clients arrive with a finished manuscript and no idea where to start. Some arrive with an audiobook already recorded that needs re-editing or remastering. Some arrive wanting to narrate their own book and need direction, equipment advice, and a proper remote recording workflow. Wherever you are, we map the path forward and are clear about what each phase involves before any work begins.
You can join the process at any stage. The roadmap, the deliverables, and the distribution setup are always agreed with you in writing before work begins.
What Our Audiobook Services Include
Narration, Editing, Mastering, Compliance & Distribution
Every engagement is scoped individually. Most audiobook projects combine several of the eight services below — from pre-production through to ongoing support and re-release.
Audiobook Pre-Production & Strategy
We start with a full review of your manuscript — pronunciation guides, character notes, pacing, and genre conventions. The output is a narrator brief and a recording plan, not a vague "let's just hit record."
Discuss this service →Narration & Voice Casting
Vetted voice talent across genres, accents, and genders — plus auditions and sample reads so you can hear the voice before committing. Also available: coaching and direction if you plan to narrate your own book.
Discuss this service →Studio & Remote Recording
Professional studio recording, or remote recording for authors narrating from home — with treated space, proper microphone technique, and remote direction so the performance stays consistent across every chapter.
Discuss this service →Audio Editing & Mastering
Full audio cleanup — mouth noise, breaths, room tone, and retakes handled — plus chapter-level mastering to ACX, Audible, and wide-distribution loudness standards. Every file delivered as retail-ready.
Discuss this service →Quality Control & Proofing
A full listen-through against the manuscript to catch misreads, dropped lines, mispronunciations, and audio artefacts before submission. This is the step most rushed productions skip — and the one listeners notice most.
Discuss this service →ACX & Retail Compliance
Audio prepared to meet ACX, Audible, and other retail platform technical requirements — RMS levels, peak limits, noise floor, and file naming. We handle the submission checklist so your upload does not bounce back for technical reasons.
Discuss this service →Multi-Platform Distribution
Delivery to Audible, Amazon, Apple Books, Spotify, Kobo, Google Play, and other supported platforms via aggregators. Metadata, categories, and retail descriptions prepared alongside the audio — not as an afterthought.
Discuss this service →Ongoing Support & Updates
Re-mastering for new platforms, re-recording updated chapters, new editions, and fixes to retail metadata. Optional support plans keep existing audiobooks healthy as platform requirements evolve.
Discuss this service →Each service can be engaged on its own or as part of a full audiobook production. Scope, deliverables, and revision limits are always confirmed in writing before work begins.
What We Produce
The Kinds of Audiobooks We Take On
We work across a wide range of genres and production formats, but every project is assessed individually. Some books work beautifully as audiobooks; others benefit from a different treatment. We will tell you honestly which case you are in.
Fiction & Novels
Literary, genre, and commercial fiction with single narration or character-led performance — paced to hold listeners through long-form storytelling.
Memoirs & Autobiographies
Author-narrated or narrator-led memoirs with direction that preserves the emotional weight of first-person storytelling.
Business & Non-Fiction
Clear, confident narration for business, leadership, and non-fiction — designed for commutes, workouts, and in-between moments.
Children's & Family
Character-voiced narration for children's books and family listening — pacing tuned for bedtime and car journeys.
Health & Wellness
Calm, measured narration for wellness, mindfulness, and self-care audiobooks — mastered for low-fatigue listening.
Educational & Instructional
Clear, structured narration for courses, guides, and instructional books — chapter markers aligned to the print edition for easy reference.
Corporate & Internal
Internal training, onboarding, and internal documentation audiobooks — delivered as private, unlisted files or LMS-ready audio.
Podcast-to-Audiobook
Turning existing podcast or interview audio into a structured audiobook — transcripted, edited, re-recorded where needed, and packaged for retail.
Our Audiobook Process
How We Prepare, Record, Master & Distribute
Six clear stages. Each stage has an agreed deliverable, and each one begins only after the previous stage has been reviewed and approved by you.
Pre-Production & Manuscript Prep
We review your manuscript end to end — pronunciation guides, character notes, pacing decisions, and any structural edits needed for audio. We agree on the narrator brief, the target runtime, and the delivery formats before anything is recorded.
You receive: a narrator brief and recording planNarration & Casting
For narrator-led projects, we shortlist voice talent and provide audition samples so you can hear the voice in context. For author-narrated projects, we coach delivery and provide recording direction throughout.
You receive: approved narrator (or coaching plan) and audition samplesRecording Sessions
Recording happens in a treated studio, or remotely for author-narrated projects — with chapter-by-chapter sign-off on key sections. Retakes are captured during the session, not left to post.
You receive: raw chapter recordings and session notesEditing & Mastering
Audio is cleaned — mouth noise, breaths, room tone, and cross-chapter transitions — then mastered to consistent loudness for retail platforms. Chapter markers are aligned and every file is named per platform conventions.
You receive: mastered chapter files ready for retail uploadQuality Control & Compliance
A full listen-through against the manuscript — catching misreads, missed lines, and audio artefacts. Then we verify ACX and retail technical requirements before submitting anything to a distributor.
You receive: a QC report and a compliance checklistDistribution & Support
We prepare metadata, categories, and retail descriptions, then deliver to Audible, Amazon, Apple Books, Spotify, Kobo, Google Play, and other supported platforms through aggregators. Ongoing support covers re-mastering and updates as platforms evolve.
You receive: live retail listings and master audio filesWe do not quote completion times before we understand the scope of a project. Audiobook timelines depend heavily on manuscript length, narrator availability, session pace, and revision rounds — all of which vary. Any agency that quotes a fixed timeline before pre-production is guessing.
Why Authors Choose AuthorsAxis
Why Clients Trust Us With Their Audiobooks
These are the working principles we hold ourselves to on every audiobook production engagement.
Honest scoping — not every book needs a full-cast production
If your book works best as a single-narrator production, we will say so. Full-cast, duet, and character-voiced productions are worth the extra effort only when the material genuinely benefits. We would rather build the right audiobook than the most expensive one.
Studio-grade audio — no rushed edits
Every file is mastered to retail standards with proper loudness, clean transitions, and no artefacts. We do not skip the QC listen-through. Listeners notice the difference, and reviews reflect it.
You own the masters and the distribution rights
All master files, session files, and commercial distribution rights transfer to you on delivery. There is no agency-owned middle layer, no ongoing licence fee, and no restriction on which platforms you list on.
Narrator-led or author-narrated — both done properly
Some authors want a professional voice; some want to read their own story. We handle both, including the remote recording setup, direction, and pacing that author-narrated projects need to sound professional.
Platform-agnostic distribution
We are not tied to Audible, Amazon, or any single aggregator. We deliver to the platforms that fit your audience — including exclusive and non-exclusive setups — and we tell you honestly which approach makes sense for your book.
Support after launch, not radio silence
Retail platforms change requirements, and audiobooks need updates — new chapters, new editions, new metadata. Optional support plans cover ongoing fixes and re-releases, or we hand everything over fully documented with no ongoing commitment.
We do not claim award counts, certifications, or client numbers on this page. Those belong in a conversation, not a headline — and you are welcome to ask about them directly.

Selected Audiobook Case Studies
Detailed case studies are added as engagements are completed and approved for publication by the client. The template below shows how each project is documented — including the starting point, our approach, deliverables, and verified outcomes.
[Book / Client Name]
[Describe the client's original situation — what state the manuscript was in, what they wanted from the audiobook, and what was blocking them.]
[Describe the pre-production, narration direction, editing approach, and distribution strategy.]
[List the actual deliverables — master files, chapter markers, retail metadata, distribution listings.]
[Placeholder — replace with a verified outcome. Do not invent listener numbers, review counts, or revenue figures.]

Project Pricing
How Audiobook Production Is Priced
Two audiobook projects are almost never the same, and we do not pretend otherwise. What an audiobook costs depends on the finished runtime, whether you are using a professional narrator or narrating yourself, the complexity of the material, how much editing is needed, and whether distribution support is included. A short non-fiction book and a long full-cast fiction novel are very different productions.
Rather than publishing a per-finished-hour rate that means nothing in practice, we quote every project individually after pre-production. You will always know what is included, what is not, and what the next phase will cost before you commit to it. If you are comparing quotes from other studios, we are happy to help you compare like-for-like scopes.
Frequently Asked Questions
Audiobooks — Common Questions
What is included in audiobook production?
Full audiobook production typically covers pre-production and manuscript prep, narration (by a professional voice or by you), recording sessions, audio editing and mastering to retail standards, quality control, ACX/retail compliance checks, and distribution support. Everything is scoped individually and confirmed in writing before work begins.
Should I narrate my own audiobook, or hire a narrator?
It depends on the book and on you. Memoirs and personal development books often work best with the author's own voice, because the emotional authenticity comes through. Fiction, business, and instructional books often benefit from a professional narrator with delivery experience across genres. We will give you an honest recommendation during pre-production, including a coaching plan if you decide to narrate yourself.
How long does audiobook production take?
It depends on runtime, narration approach, and revision rounds. A short non-fiction book with a professional narrator can be ready in a few weeks. A long fiction novel with character-voiced narration and multiple revision rounds can take a few months. We do not quote timelines before pre-production because the honest answer depends on the actual scope.
How much does audiobook production cost?
Cost varies widely — from a modest single-narrator non-fiction project to a full-cast fiction production with extensive editing and multi-platform distribution. Rather than publishing a misleading per-hour rate, we quote every project individually after pre-production. You will always know what is included, what is not, and what the total is before you commit.
What are ACX and Audible technical requirements?
ACX and Audible set specific technical requirements for audiobook audio — RMS loudness within a defined range, peak levels below a defined ceiling, a specified noise floor, and consistent chapter file naming. Files that miss these requirements often get rejected on submission. We master to these standards and verify compliance before anything is uploaded.
Can you distribute beyond Audible and Amazon?
Yes. We deliver to Audible, Amazon, Apple Books, Spotify, Kobo, Google Play, and other supported platforms through aggregators. Whether you should go exclusive with Audible or distribute widely is a genuine strategic decision — we will walk you through the trade-offs for your specific book and audience.
Who owns the audio files and the distribution rights?
You do — completely. Master audio files, session files, and full commercial distribution rights transfer to you on final payment. There is no ongoing licence fee, no restriction on which platforms you list on, and no agency-owned middle layer. If you ever want to move distributors, you can.
Do you handle chapter markers and metadata?
Yes. Chapter markers are aligned to the print or eBook edition where relevant, and metadata — title, author, narrator, description, categories, and keywords — is prepared for each retail platform. Retail descriptions are written to match the audiobook, not just copied from the print edition.
Do I need cover art specifically for the audiobook?
Audiobook platforms often have specific cover requirements (square aspect ratio, minimum resolution, legibility at small sizes). If your existing cover does not meet these, we can adapt it or design an audiobook-specific version. This is a small but important step — a cover that fails platform requirements will block your upload.
Can you fix an audiobook that was already recorded?
Yes, in many cases. We frequently take over recordings that need re-editing, re-mastering, or full QC because they failed platform requirements. We will review what exists and give you an honest assessment of whether it is worth repairing or re-recording. There is no point polishing audio that will never pass retail compliance.
What file formats do you deliver?
Retail-ready master files are delivered as high-bitrate MP3 or WAV as required by the platform, along with any intermediate files you need. All source files, session files, and the finalised metadata package are yours on delivery. If you need additional formats for internal use or archival, we can supply them.
Do you use AI narration?
No. We produce human-narrated audiobooks. AI narration has a place for some internal and experimental use cases, but it is not appropriate for retail audiobooks sold under your name — listeners notice, reviews reflect it, and most major retail platforms have restrictions. If you are specifically interested in AI narration for a non-retail use case, tell us during Discovery and we will discuss it honestly.
Do you require long-term contracts?
No. Audiobook production is a fixed-scope engagement — you pay for the production, and you own everything on delivery. Distribution support and ongoing updates afterwards are optional rolling plans or fixed-scope work. There is no mandatory twelve-month retainer and no exit clause you have to negotiate.
How do we get started?
Fill in the inquiry form below with a short description of your project — the book, its length, whether you plan to narrate or use a professional voice, and what platforms you want to publish on. We will reply with an initial assessment and, if it looks like a good fit, schedule a pre-production call. Nothing is quoted until we understand the scope, and there is no obligation to proceed after that conversation.
